does anyone listen to or participate in podcasts
Reply Quote

Does anyone listen to or participate in podcasts?  I am always interested in finding good podcasts to listen to on my long ride to and from work.

here is a short list in no particular order

this week in tech (TWIT) - produced by the former members of TechTv.  TechTv was my favorite cable channel.  The main show was called "The Screen Savers"  well this podcast is produced by Leo LaPorte.  A nice round table discussion about some of the week's tech news stories

diggnation - another weekly show dedicated to the week's tech news but this podcast is created by the founder of digg.com, Kevin Rose.  Digg.com is a social news website where members can "Digg" a story if they like it.  Stories that have the most Diggs will make the front page of the site.  there is also a comment system so members can discuss different topics.

Lostcasts.com - I am hooked on the show lost on ABC.  Every week this group of people get together and discuss the mysteries of this show.  I use this show as my escape for an hour or so each week.  AH...

2600's Off the Hook - Not really a podcast but this weekly radio show from WBAI in NYC is also put out as an MP3 available for download.  While I do not agree with every political thing host Emmanuel Goldstein has to say, I really enjoy any insight Bernie S. can add to the topic at hand.

those are four main podcasts that I make sure I listen to every week.  There are others that get thrown into the mix occasionally but for me these are "must listen to" podcasts.

I wanted to know if anyone here has ever participated in a podcast.  I have always enjoyed the freedom of blogging but I feel that I could better convey my ideas in a spoken manner rather than written.  In the coming weeks I am going to attempt a weekly podcast about things in technology/ moden business society that are painful to see or hear about.  Topics like product design and useability are a few of the topics i want to discuss.  I would also like to throw my two cents in about management in the working world.

I will let every one here in this group know when the first podcast is up and I would really enjoy your feedback if you could spare some time to come and listen.

no worries,

you know i do not listen to the make podcast.  it seems like everything they put out is a video podcast.  I don't know if i am missing something but i never see any audio only podcasts, not for months now.

There was one Make podcast that i really enjoyed.  I do not remember who the person was but they were discussing the decison about whether or not to buy a hybrid car.  some very interesting points were brought up.

no worries,

A couple of video podcasts I have found useful and keeping with the spirit of Make are the Systm shows and GIDUT.

Systm is a must watch and is produced by same guys that do Diggnation. Some pretty good stuff. Also check out The Broken. good show too. I wish Kevin Rose spent more time on them than Diggnation.

GIDUT ( Get it done using Technology) - also found highly useful... walks you thru tasks such as making network cables, punching down CAT-5, setting up routers. Another video podcast but worth checking out if you have time.

TWAT Radio is an audio podcast. Its more of a community type show with submissions from many different people. They usually cover a wide variety of how-to type topics with computers and technology. Some are good, other you can just skip.

Engadget is also on my must listen list, but they tend to spend alot of time talking about mobile phones and ignore the rest of the gadgets out there.

Some other video podcasts I watch when i get a chance are CmmandN, dl.TV, OpenAlpha, MoBuzzTV, and subscribe to a handful of Palm, Mac and TV show podcasts.

Be sure to keep track as to how you produce your podcast, as it would make a good presentation for a MAKE philly event! Hmm, a Make:philly podcast even? I'd subscribe!
Are you using a Mac? I've heard that the new garageband has a built in podcast feature for easy recording.

Not exactly a tech podcast, but I've got two more suggestions:
43folders.com (not very regular and short 5-7 minutes, but funny and interesting on organizing)
I don't know if you can still get them but the Ricky Gervais show was funny - he's moved onto a paid subscription base, that I have not subscribed to. He is also doing a 3 min vodcast that is free.

I agree, I liked the original MAKE audio podcasts better than the video (or vodcasts).

One more vodcast worth mentioning...

I'd be intrested in learning how to produce podcasts. I don't think it can be to complex. I mean, theres probably enough open source software to help with recording (Audacity) and distrubiting (RSS does stand for Really Simple Syndication. How hard can that be?) Let me know if this ideas still alive.
