Hey philly makers, Thanks for the soldering "class" at the last meeting. Very informative. Now I'm looking to solder and de-solder everything in my apartment. I'm going to order a roll of solder from Amazon.com but was wondering if anyone had a better recommendation for these "basic" suuplies. I'd also like to get a small tub of flux, and a de-solder gizmo (H said the RadioShack version stunk - anyone have one they can recommend?) I'm wondering too if there is a good online source for various parts such as capcitors, diodes, etc... Ok, I'm off to try and find a local garage door company to "dumpster dive" for wires and stuff - thanks for that tip too Josh. -J

A couple of good sources for parts are www.digikey.com (they have almost everything) and www.jameco.com (they are a little more reasonable for small orders and have almost everything). I haven't looked for soldering stuff at either of those places, but I'm sure they both have a better de-soldering thing than radio shack. Also, check out www.sparkfun.com. They don't have a wide selection, but they get a lot of neat stuff. I know I've been inspired to start projects just based on thier new products list.

Those are great resources for parts and such. I think these are more tool related:
http://www.mpja.com/solder_equipment.asp
http://www.all-spec.com/1/category/Soldering/Rework/ALLSPEC/
MPJA is a great surplus site in general, and they have a wide range of soldering stations from the cheap to the crazy expensive.
I can divulge the secret dumpster location if you promise not to use my name if you get caught ;-)
It is behind the strip mall at 280 e. street road in warminster. Go after 5:00 and no one will bother you!
